Beaches, surf, food and local tips around Praia da Ingrina

Beaches

Walking distance from the house

Three beaches are within easy walking distance.

Praia da Barranco — secluded, quiet and completely natural. About 10 minutes on foot.

Praia da Ingrina — a small sheltered cove, ideal for families and calm swimming. About 10–15 minutes on foot.

Praia do Zavial — a well-known surf beach with consistent Atlantic swells. About 20–25 minutes on foot, or 5 minutes by car.

West Coast Atlantic beaches (15–20 min by car)

Praia de Castelejo / Praia da Cordoama — the closest west coast beaches, perfect for catching a spectacular sunset.

Praia do Amado — one of the finest beaches in the Algarve. Worth combining with a detour through Carrapateira village and dinner at Microbar.

Praia da Bordeira — beautiful wild beach with a small inland lake, great for children on calmer days.

Beaches near Sagres (12 km)

Praia da Mareta — right in Sagres town, sheltered and family-friendly. Tip: get ice cream at Alice Gelateria nearby.

Special day trip: Praia de Arrifana — about 40 minutes north, a spectacular cove with a great surf atmosphere.

Safety note: the Atlantic coast has strong waves and currents. Always check local flags and surf reports before swimming, especially with children.

Surfing

The area offers two distinct coastlines with different conditions.

The south-facing beaches (Ingrina, Zavial) tend to be calmer and more sheltered — good for beginners and families.

The west-facing Atlantic beaches (Castelejo, Amado, Bordeira) receive the full force of the Atlantic swell and are popular with experienced surfers.

Always check conditions before heading out — Windguru and Magic Seaweed are reliable for this area.

Surf schools and board rental

Pure Surfcamp — right at Praia da Ingrina, walking distance from the house.

Food & Drink

Our favourite local restaurants — all personally tried and tested:

Pisco (Vila do Bispo) — excellent local food, great value, also does takeaway. Our top recommendation in the area.

Beach restaurants at Ingrina and Zavial — simple, fresh, right on the sand.

Favo (Hortas do Tabual) — worth seeking out for a special dinner.

The Den (Raposeira) — relaxed atmosphere, good international menu.

Microbar (Carrapateira) — a gem. Small, packed, and delicious. Best combined with a visit to Praia do Amado.

A Sereia, Arte Bianca, Brewhouse (Sagres) — reliable options when exploring Sagres and Cape St. Vincent.

Shopping & Practicalities

Minimarket Raposeira (approx. 3 km) — well-stocked for daily essentials, friendly staff.

Vila do Bispo (approx. 6 km) has everything you need: Lidl and Aldi supermarkets, a butcher, and a weekly fresh market with local fruit, vegetables and fish.

Coffee tip: Zig Zag Bar, right next to the weekly market — excellent coffee and a great place to watch local life.
